When I Am Among the Trees

Once more I am among the trees of faraway places as I journey to meet up with friends in east Texas. I departed January 4, 2013 and alaready have traveled over a thousand miles. Highlights are Painted Rocks campground west of Gila Bend, Arizona, Marfa Airfield where my Dad was stationed during WWII, Sunland Racetrack in El Paso, Big Bend National Park in west Texas, lovely German Fredericksburg, and The Alamo in San Antonio. I loved seeing all these places. I read Michener's Texas, filled with great stories of Texas history. I will have some fine photos to add.

My favorite poet, Mary Oliver, is the source of my new Blog Title from her poem "When I Am Among the Trees".
I hope you will enjoy following along on my adventures.

When I Am Among the Trees
     by Mary Oliver

When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness,
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, "It's simple," they say,
"and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine."
