Last stop in Texas (before Louisiana) is the San Jacinto Battleground, the final battle against Mexican General Santa Anna lead by Sam Houston. This monument is taller than the Washington Monument in Washington D.C.
After Santa Anna's victory at the Alamo, the Mexican General marched across Texas intent on driving all of the American settlers into Louisiana. His military errors near Lynch's Ferry on the grassy plains of San Jacinto resulted in a battle of less than 20 minutes with severe Mexican losses.
This is what you can see from the viewing room at the top of the Monument.
Downstairs is a movie about the battle narrated by Charlton Heston.
Outside there is a marshy park with boardwalks and this sign is posted.
New dangers at the San Jacinto battle site.
