Dearborn, Michigan
I spent all of Sunday at Henry Ford's Greenfield Village.
Here is the steam engine that circumnavigated the Village.
Many passengers enjoyed the ride especially as the day grew longer and warmer.
The steam shooting out the side of the engine was incredibly loud.
Fourteen Model T cars ride the guests around the Village.
After waiting in line I had a turn. It reminded me of riding in the early volkswagons only higher up. They must have a great team of mechanics to keep these cars in service everyday.
The cars let off passengers then picked up new ones; the Model T ride is very popular.
Also the carousel ride was popular. Riding a carousel pony while watching the Model T cars zip around made me feel like I was in The Music Man.
As I rode the train I snapped a few shots.
This is a Cotswold Cottage built in the early 1600s in Chedworth, Gloustershire, England.
While a poet-in-residence at the University of Michigan, Robert Frost often took walks around the neighborhood where he found this house. Here he wrote some of his best poetry and inspired students in their creative efforts.
This is Thomas Edison's Menlo Park Laboratory.
Gary actually demonstrated the making of a recording on this early Edison device shouting loudly into the horn, "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ear!!" The voice was recorded on what looked like a piece of tinfoil. When it was played back it was as if from a great distance.
The gift shop had beautiful, expensive, artist-crafted pieces.
I had a Big Boy hamburger back in Flat Rock near where I stayed.
When I was twelve we would visit Aunt Maurine in Burbank and go the Big Boy drive-in, sit in the car and eat these things!
I would have liked to be at the museum with you!
