FDR & The Little White House

"When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on."

- Franklin D. Roosevelt

The Little White House in the Warm Springs, Georgia, was Franklin Delano Roosevelt's personal retreat. He first came to Warm Springs for polio treatment and subsequently had a home built on Pine Mountain which was finished in 1932. Now the House is operated by the State of Georgia.

I could live here! What a nice living room.

I was inspired to come here by seeing the HBO film "Warm Springs" starring Kenneth Branagh, Cynthia Nixon and Kathy Bates, made in 2005. It shows FDR's struggle with polio, his discovery of Warm Springs, Georgia spa resort and his work to turn it into a center for the aid of polio victims, and finding strength to resume his political career.

  1. Warm Springs is such a great movie. I'm so excited that you got to see the place. The movie set looks just like your pictures. I feel like I've already been there!

  2. Seeing these photos make FDR seem like less of a character in a story and actually a person who existed. His little home was so warm and inviting! I have to rent the movie Warm Springs now! Did you see the most recent FDR movie (can't recall its title just now...) with Laura Linny and Bill Murray? Were any of those scenes depicted here?

  3. What a cozy little house, and bubbly car. Imagine red ropes around your living room in Valley Springs! And the T@b parked outside, with a red rope across the entryway.

I love the pink in the tea set, and how all the pieces are just so.
