- Martin Luther King, Jr.
March 7, 2013
Sculpture at King Center in downtown Atlanta in Martin Luther King Jr.'s childhood neighborhood.
Nearby Ebenezer Baptist Church on Auburn Avenue in Atlanta where MLK Jr.'s father was the preacher.
In 1968 after he was assassinated, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was carried upon a farm wagon drawn by mules to Southview Cemetery. Later his remains were moved to the Atlanta King Center.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on Auburn Avenue at the home of his maternal grandparents. For the next 12 years he lived here with his grandparents, parents, siblings, other family members and boarders.
There's the Ranger who gave us the tour through the home.
I had the feeling that Martin Luther King, Jr. would not be thrilled at the way his grave, etc. has been memorialized. Now, had I been asked to be an advisor on this project . . . .
Let's hear your editorial! Why did you feel his memorial wasn't fitting to him? How would you change it?
ReplyDeleteI would think he would think it too ostentatious. Don't you think? I don't think he would have wanted so much to-do.
