St. Michael's is an historic church and the oldest surviving religious structure in Charleston, South Carolina. It is located at Broad and Meeting streets on one of the Four Corners of the Law, and represents ecclesiastical law. It was built in the 1750s by order of the South Carolina Assembly.
I thought I might catch George Washington or Robert E. Lee there if I attended Easter Sunday, but drat! foiled again. Two centuries too late.
Aren't these Charleston homes delightful? This historic district is owned and lived in by the rich but they seem glad to have all the tourists they attract.
I loved driving the causeways over the water. Some climb up steeply so that ships can sail underneath.
Upstairs in St. Michaels Easter morning.
The flowers were sensational for Easter Sunday. I sat through a sermon with a little hell, fire and brimstone given by a dramatic, gifted speaker.
We saw in a pew near the front where you have to go in a little doorway then close it behind you. This is from the days when it was cold and you could have your little heater or hot coals to keep you warm for the long service.
Flowers on the front door.
That afternoon we had a Easter feast on the expansive Elks Lodge property.
We enjoyed our dinner and Charleston too.
Thanks for these lovely photos. The flowers are indeed sensational. I love the old homes and seeing the map of the area. I also like seeing the group pic. Who are you standing with? Which ones do you talk to a lot? Lovely mom! xoxo
